Phosphates are important to find in a lake or pond because in finding the amount of phosphate in the water can tell you how clean and healthy the water really is. Water’s pH is affected by its age and the chemicals that have run off into the water. Having a high PH level is not good for the inhabitants in the water. Too many phosphates in a lake or pond could cause an algae bloom.
Materials to obtain the water from the surface and bottom:
-The boat to go towards the middle of the pond.
-Two containers to fill up with water
-The tool showed in this photo

-The tool is used to get a sample of water from the bottom of the pond
once you get back to the classroom you must take your water samples and use the ACCUVAC AMPLUS machine
- you must zero out the machine then follow the other steps, which are located at the machine on a piece of paper with diagrams.
This test is very important in declaring the health of a body of water. The machine looks for particles in the water and that is what determines the overall health of the pond, some common answers are usually between 0-2, the lower the number generally indicates a healthier pond.
